Date Safety ยท Last updated: 1 August 2026

Date Safety helps you set a safety timer before meeting someone. If you do not check in on time, or if you press SOS, the people you chose as your guardians are notified. This policy explains exactly what we store, why, and how to delete it.

We do not sell your data, do not use it for advertising, and do not track you across other apps or websites. There are no advertising or analytics SDKs in this app.

1. No account, no personal identifiers

You do not create an account. The app signs in anonymously, which produces a random identifier for your installation. We never ask for your email address, phone number, or real name, and we cannot identify you from this identifier alone.

2. What is stored on our servers

Only what is needed to deliver an alert to your guardians:

DataWhyWho can see it
Anonymous user identifierLinks your safety sessions and guardian connectionsYou and our servers
Push notification tokenDelivers the alert to a guardian's phoneOur servers only
Your chosen display nameSo guardians know who the alert is aboutYou and your guardians
Safety session: deadline, status, optional meeting place, optional name of the person you are meeting, optional noteIncluded in the alert so a guardian knows where to lookYou and your guardians (only when an alert fires)
Location (latitude/longitude), captured when you start a session or press SOSSent with the alert so guardians know your last known positionYou and your guardians (only when an alert fires)
Guardian connections (who watches over whom)Determines who gets alertedThe two people connected

3. What stays only on your phone

These never leave your device: the phone number and profile notes of the person you are meeting, and your app settings.

4. Location

Location is used only while you use the app. We capture a single position when you start a safety session and when you press SOS. The app does not track your location in the background and does not keep a location history. You can refuse location permission โ€” everything else still works, alerts simply will not include a position.

5. How long we keep it

Completed and alerted sessions, and delivered alerts, are automatically deleted after 30 days. Invite codes expire after 7 days and are then deleted. Your display name, push token and guardian connections are kept until you delete your data or remove the connection.

6. Deleting your data

Open the app, go to Settings โ†’ Delete my data. This permanently removes your profile, push token, sessions, alerts, invite codes and guardian connections (on both sides) from our servers, and deletes the anonymous identifier itself. It cannot be undone. Deleting the app alone does not delete server data, so please use this button first.

7. Service providers

We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Hosting) to store data and deliver notifications. Data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure in the United States. Apple Push Notification service delivers notifications to iPhones. These providers process data on our behalf.

8. Children

This app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Your rights

You can access, correct or delete your data at any time from within the app (Settings). For anything else, contact us at the address below.

10. Important safety notice

Date Safety is not an emergency service and is not a substitute for calling the police or emergency services. Alerts depend on your phone, the guardian's phone, network availability and notification permissions, and may be delayed or fail to arrive. In an emergency, always contact your local emergency number first.

11. Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
